Parks Victoria manages one of the most diverse and representative parks networks in the world comprising 3.96 million hectares of some of Victoria's largest and most undisturbed ecosystems. The magnificent diversity of parks includes alps, mallee, heathland, wet forests, dry forests, grassland, inland waters and wetlands, coast and intertidal shores and marine environments.

The Victorian parks network includes:

• 39 national parks
• 30 state parks
• 3 wilderness parks
• 24 marine national parks and marine sanctuaries
• 22 other parks in regional Victoria
• 33 parks within the metropolitan area of the state's capital Melbourne
• and several thousand small reserves scattered throughout the state.

As custodian of the rich diversity of nature in parks, Parks Victoria works in partnership with the community to provide expert management of protected areas.
