Parks Victoria advises ...
Fox and wild dog control

Parks Victoria is committed to protecting and enhancing the natural values of parks and reserves across the state. Examples of this conservation management are the control of introduced plant and animal species which can impact on these values.

As part of an ongoing strategy notice is hereby given that Parks Victoria will be laying buried baits containing Sodium Monofluoroacetate (1080 poison) on public land for the control of foxes and wild dogs. Baits containing 1080 poison will be laid from Wednesday 23 September 2009 until Wednesday 16 December 2009 at strategic sites within the following parks:

The Lakes National Park
Gippsland Lakes Coastal Park
Holey Plains State Park
Dowd Morass, Clydebank Morass and Heart Morass State Wildlife Reserves.

A second program will be conducted in only Holey Plains State Park from Wednesday 10 February 2010 until Wednesday 16 June 2010.

1080 poison signs will be posted throughout the baited area and members of the public who are living, visiting or working in the above named locations are advised to take particular care not to disturb or interfere with bait stations. Domestic dogs and cats are particularly susceptible to 1080 poison and should be under effective control, muzzled or kept away from the poisoned areas.

The public is advised that dogs are not permitted within Wildlife Reserves during this program and at all times in The Lakes National Park, Holey Plains State Park and parts of the Gippsland Lakes Coastal Park.

Operational details may be obtained from Chris Holmes by calling the Parks Victoria Information Centre on 13 1963.
