• Try your luck and throw a fishing line in the Yarra River - bring your own bait and have a fresh meal of fish.
• Bring your binoculars to watch the birds along the river banks.
• Paint a picture or take photographs of the valley and beautiful river views.
• The wide open spaces of Longridge are perfect for creative play, frisbee throwing, ball games or flying kites.

• Longridge camp ground has a barbecue (wood provided), an information shelter, tables, toilets, hot showers and a canoe ramp into the river.

Camping is available for single groups of up to 40 people. Booking in advance is a strict requirement so that a permit can be issued and camping fees (that must be fully paid at least one week in advance) apply. The period between noon on the first day and 10.00 am the following day consititutes a single day’s booking.

Longridge was taken over by the former Melbourne Metropolitan Board of Works in 1977 from the Cameron family. It was utilised for grazing beef cattle. The Cameron family may have named the property after the long ridge running down to the picturesque campsite beside the Yarra River.

Until 1993, the property continued to be used for cattle grazing, rotating stock from the Werribee Treatment Complex. However, since conservation works (including treeplanting) around Longridge Park have increased, the cattle have been removed.

In 1994, Longridge Camp opened to the public as an overnight camping site.

Aboriginal Traditional Owners

Parks Victoria acknowledges the Aboriginal Traditional Owners of Victoria - including its parks and reserves. Through their cultural traditions, Aboriginal people maintain their connection to their ancestral lands and waters.

Enjoy the open space and watch out for the other creatures with which you are sharing the campsite. Wedge-tailed Eagles, Koalas, Eastern Grey Kangaroos, Platypus and a myriad of birdlife frequent the area.

Sugar Gliders, Tawny Frogmouth, wombats, owls, frogs, bats, Ringtail Possums and Brushtail Possums are also found around Longridge Camp.

The vegetation types dominating Longridge Park and its surrounding area include Yellow Box, Manna Gum, Burgan and Weeping Grass. Blackwood, Hop Goodenia and Sward Tussock-Grass are other types which can be found.

• Take your rubbish with you.
• All native plants and animals are protected.
• Light fires only in fireplaces provided. No fires, including barbecues and any gas appliances, may be lit on days of Total Fire Ban.
• Dogs and other pets are not permitted.
• Leave the park as you find it.

Longridge Camp is located on the banks of the Yarra River in Warrandyte. Details of access to the campsite will be given upon booking.

Entry into Longridge Park is restricted to permit holders. Bookings (and prepayments) can be made through the Westerfolds Park office midweek during park office hours between 8.30am and 3.30pm.
