Parks Victoria – Coastal CRC Marine Habitat Mapping Project

Parks Victoria and the CRC for Coastal Zone, Estuary and Waterway Management (Coastal CTRC) have formed a partnership to map the marine habitats of six of the largest Marine National Parks in Victorian Ocean Waters. The project employs the expertise of universities, government agencies and private enterprise to deliver a comprehensive and high quality survey of marine habitats within the Victorian Marine National Parks.

Mapping involves precision multi-beam bathymetric surveys, followed by comprehensive towed video assessment. Survey accuracy is maintained by satellite sensors, vessel motional reference units and towed body transponders. Habitats are identified using a combination of bathymetry, and classified video. Information products will be used for management, educational and research purposes.
