International Healthy Parks Healthy People Congress 2010
[Healthy Parks, Healthy People Home]

Parks are essential to the wellbeing of people in many ways but to optimise their full potential, collaboration will be required with no-traditional partners, such as those within the health and community development sectors. Bridging sectoral boundaries will be vital to rethinking the role of parks. The worlds of park management and human well-being have largely developed independently of each other. In the interests of a sustainable future, it is time we unit them.

To catalyse action, Parks Victoria will stage an International Healthy Parks Healthy People Congress at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre, 11-16 April 2010. It is expected to attract over 1000 delegates from Australia and throughout the world. Participants will come from many different sectors and provide a diversity of viewpoints.

CONGRESS OBJECTIVES

To attract delegates from policy, planning, research and operational roles across a variety of sectors to:

  • Explore the many societal benefits that parks and nature provide.
  • Build the relevance of parks and nature to society.
  • Share initiatives and innovations by collaborating across sectors.
  • Develop an international agenda that reunites nature with social health.
  • Identify funding opportunities for initiatives and projects.
  • Establish an information exchange network.
