Project Coordinator – Darebin Creek Trail, CBD, Grade 6 – full time fixed term 35 months
The position is to coordinate the cross government (state and local) implementation of the connection of the Lower Darebin Creek Shared Trail to the Main Yarra Shared Trail and this will include the provision of a local access trail in the vicinity of Farm Road.

Project Coordinator – Landscape Architect, CBD, Grade 6 – full time fixed term till 30 June 2010
The primary task for this position will be project management, coordination and administration associated with the development of a master plan for the Kinglake National Park which was extensively damaged during the February 2009 fires. You will provide technical expertise, advice and coordination in landscape architecture to guide the preparation of landscape master plans and concept plans.

Customer Service Officer
  • Salary - $40,973pa plus 9% super

We have a great opportunity for a Customer Service Officer to work in our Information Centre in a seasonal ongoing role (i.e. 6 months - October to April). You will be expected to provide professional and friendly assistance to resolve customer enquiries. These enquiries can range from maintaining bookings for accommodation, camping and overnight hikes for a number of park venues as well as answering general enquiries about Parks Victoria’s parks and facilities.

Applicants should have:-

  • Good communication skills including a professional and friendly phone manner and ability to communicate effectively in writing.
  • Computer skills appropriate to perform bookings, database searches and operate standard MS Office software.
  • An ability to work as part of a small team where the workload is shared and a commitment to contribute to that shared responsibility.
  • An ability to deal appropriately with callers who are agitated or distressed.
  • The flexibility to work specified hours and on weekends to ensure consistent delivery of our service.

River Red Gum Community Engagement Officer

  • The River Red Gum Community Engagement Officer will develop and deliver a community engagement program as part of the Government response to VEAC investigations of the River Red Gum forests. The role will help ensure seamless integration of park establishment with park management through the building and maintenance of strong working relationships with DSE and Parks Victoria’s Regional and Corporate staff. This position will manage the complexities involved in the community’s understanding of the transitional change of land status to National Park and other regional parks and reserves.

To succeed in this role you will have:

  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant field for the position or equivalent extensive experience would be desirable.
  • Knowledge of the principles of facilitating community development and practices, legislation and planning applicable to protected areas.
  • Experience in engaging community groups to provide clear understanding of Government and organisational priorities in relation to community partnerships.
  • Demonstrated capacity to build and maintain a diverse range of professional relationships.
  • Well developed communication, consultation and engagement skills and demonstrated ability to negotiate and communicate sensitively with stakeholders and the community.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand government, community and private sector organisation workings in a sensitive political environment.

Indigenous Field Service Officer

We have a great opportunity for an Indigenous Field Service Officer to work at Swan Hill. The role is geographic in nature and is responsible for the development and management of key service delivery outputs across the core Parks Victoria business outputs of natural value management, visitor service management, cultural values management and operational programs. You would also respond to a range of emergency situations including search and rescue operations, prescribed burning and wildfire suppression.

If you have:

  • Experience and/or knowledge of natural area management, park management and/or recreation management
  • A commitment to excellence and innovation in all areas of park management with demonstrated experience in delivery of on ground projects from conception to finalisation.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgement and be self-motivated with demonstrated ability in implementing and working with teams, with local communities and external stakeholders.
  • Experience and/or knowledge of Parks Victoria’s responsibilities relating to fire prevention and suppression.
  • Ability to implement OH&S requirements and have a sound knowledge of safety management guidelines and JSA's.
  • Demonstrated practical skills in the maintenance and operation of machinery, small equipment and tools.
  • A current manual transmission Drivers Licence is essential.
  • 4WD accreditation, basic chainsaw and cross cut accreditation, ACUP, heavy endorsed licence and plant operator qualifications are all desirable.

Education Program Coordinator

Are you passionate about environmental education? The position of Education Program Coordinator is responsible for coordinating Parks Victoria’s obligations in relation to state and federal initiatives, in particular the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development Strategic Partnerships Program. You will also provide support, advice and guidance to Parks Victoria staff on school curriculum and educational products and services, as well as advocating the consistent delivery of schools education programs at Parks Victoria sites.

To succeed in this role you will have:

  • A tertiary qualification in education and demonstrated experience in the development, delivery and evaluation of education programs, preferably with an environmental focus.
  • A sound understanding of the VELS Curriculum Framework as it applies to Victorian school programs.
  • Demonstrated experience in budget and project management including managing contractors and consultants and preparing reports.
  • Proven experience in developing contemporary curriculum materials.
  • Exceptional verbal communication skills and confidence in presenting to large groups.
  • Excellent team skills and demonstrated experience in working with and developing professional relationships with industry associations.
  • Highly developed decision-making skills, self motivation, and the ability to work consistently without supervision.

District Business Support Officer

The District Business Support Officer under the direction of the Chief Ranger is required to provide business support to the district; focusing on administration, records management, general finance, district training coordination and office management.

If you have:

  • Understanding of public sector financial and administrative compliance requirements and demonstrated experience in undertaking and complying with business processes and procedures.
  • Sound experience in a wide range of clerical and administrative tasks, particularly in file administration and maintenance.
  • Demonstrable experience in general finance functions such as cash handling and reconciliation, invoice raising, purchasing, accounts payable and financial record keeping.
  • Strong computer literacy including familiarity with Windows operating systems and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook and Powerpoint) skills.
  • Demonstrable experience in communicating with a diverse range of internal and external clients including negotiating, explaining and clarifying and the ability to develop effective relationships at all levels of the organisation.
