Victoria's diverse range of national and state parks are highly regarded by four wheel drive enthusiasts for the extensive track network and spectacular scenery ranging from desert, mountains, rainforest and snow. Whether it's a short day trip or an extended touring experience there are opportunities for exploration and adventure that will cater for all levels of skill and expertise.

Popular parks for four wheel driving include:

  • Alpine National Park.
Meet nature on its own terms in this park that protects the state’s highest mountains and pristine alpine environments. Some of the tracks deep in the park are for experienced four wheel drivers only, but there are many other tracks where you can get away, enjoy beautiful views, and appreciate the quiet wonder of the alps.
  • Bunyip State Park.
The exceptional natural condition, diversity of fauna and flora and high landscape values, creates a distinctive bush atmosphere to be explored and enjoyed. Covering 16,700ha of natural bushland, this park contains over 130km of roads and tracks, many of which cater for beginners and more experienced drivers alike.
  • Croajingolong National Park.
One of Australia';s most magnificent parks, Croajingolong features forested foot hills and a stunning coastline. Several tracks lead to remote locations, while others offer touring routes through the park and adjoining state forest.
  • Murray-Sunset National Park.
Victoria's second largest and very own outback park contains vast mallee woodlands, picturesque pink salt lakes and majestic River Red Gums. Most of the tracks in the park are for four wheel drive vehicles only.

In addition to the state and national parks managed by Parks Victoria there is a large range of state forest managed by the Department of Sustainability and Environment where four wheel driving is permitted. This includes the Big Desert, Otway, Wombat, Toolangi-Black Range, Mount Disappointment, Buffalo River, Mitta Mitta, Thompson River and East Gippsland forests.
Visit the DSE website for maps and tour information for Far East Gippsland Back Road Tours.

Be sure to check for road closures before you go.
