Victoria boasts some world class sites for rock climbing and abseiling, most of which are located in National and State parks and other areas of public land controlled by Parks Victoria and the Department of Natural Resources and Environment. Select a park page from the list above and read about rock climbing in that specific park. Here are a few places in parks managed by Parks Victoria where you can go rock climbing: - The Grampians National Park is internationally renowned for its climbing and has hundreds of exciting climbs to test beginners and experienced climbers alike.
- The spectacular Mount Arapiles in the Tooan State Park is widely regarded as the best rock climbing spot in Australia and has received worldwide acclaim. There are over 2000 well established climbs with some dramatic rock formations to test the nerves and skill of the most experienced of climbers.
- The Gorge at Mount Buffalo has some fantastic climbs on a sheer granite face. The views are great and access is easy as driving is allowed in most areas.
Some places, such as Aboriginal sites, peregrine nesting areas, wilderness areas, tourist sites and conservation zones might have more stringent conditions on climbing than generally apply. Check with local offices and work centres before you climb. For more information check the rock climbing section at the Visit Victoria website
