Upwey Brownies Help to Clean Up Australia
The Upwey Brownies, along with their leaders and families, got into the spirit of Clean Up Australia Day on Monday night March 5th.With bright yellow vests, gloves and grins from ear to ear they tackled the job at hand to clean up the picnic ground. Working in pairs they sorted the rubbish into recyclables and general rubbish. Common items were bread bag ties, lolly-pop sticks, beer bottle tops and the disgusting cigarette butt. Plastic drink bottles and cans were not common rubbish in the picnic area as on the walking tracks.
An unusual but annoying type of rubbish was small silver cut-outs of the number 60, used for a birthday celebration, that were scattered all over the ground - there were hundreds of them!
The Brownies enjoyed a sausage sizzle after the clean up and plan to come back to the park later in the year to enjoy a campfire night and spotlight walk.
