2007 Students Remember
There is always a good time to remember those men and women who have been involved in war or conflict over the past 100 years. Students in Grade Five from Cranbourne West Primary School recently participated in a ceremony to honour these men and women, as part of their excursion to the Dandenong Ranges National Park. The basis of their ceremony was made up of elements from traditional Remembrance Day Ceremonies, celebrated around the world at 11am on 11 November. The students were beautifully led by members of their school choir in the song I am Australian. The symbol of the Poppy from the First World War was used in wreath laying.Following their ceremony the students enthusiastically ascended the Kokoda Track, more commonly referred to as the 1,000 Steps Walk. This track commemorates the campaign on the Kokoda Track in Papua New Guinea during World War II, to protect Australia from a Japanese invasion.
For schools interested in participating in a similar event please contact the Education Officer at the Dandenong Ranges National Park or refer to the attached ceremony outline sheet.
