Teachers
Parks Victoria offers a comprehensive range of education services including curriculum based experiences at key Education Centres, Ranger talks and walks as well as ongoing park project work as a part of the Environment Corps program.
Formal education programs are available to integrate current Victorian curriculum
frameworks as set by the Department
of Education and Early Childhood Development. These programs focus on
Parks Victoria’s key messages and principles and are designed to encourage
students to become actively involved in studying, enjoying and contributing
towards healthy parks system.
Below is a list of the programs and services available.
1. Education Centres
To improve learning outcomes from park based studies, school education centres have been developed in a variety of park locations throughout Victoria. Education centres are staffed by qualified education officers and have facilities to provide a range of hands on, exciting curriculum based programs for small or large school groups. 2. Environment Corps Program
The Environment Corps grant program can provide schools and parks with the opportunity to undertake ongoing practical park projects. Past projects include nest box construction, native revegetation work and track maintenance projects.
3. Junior Ranger Program and Ranger Roo
The Junior Ranger Program and the Ranger Roo website www.rangerroo.com.au, have been developed to inspire primary school students to visit, learn and enjoy Victoria’s fantastic park system. Ranger Roo is the mascot of Parks Victoria’s Junior Ranger Program, and through a variety of interactive online and school holiday activities, children can develop an understanding of what a park rangers role entails, as well as the wonders and challenges experienced “on the job”.
4. Educational Resources

5. Ranger talks and other services
Depending on staff availability, many other parks throughout the state can offer services for schools. Services range from short introductory talks and walks to the provision of maps and self guided curriculum material.
6. Self Guided Excursions
Teachers can independently lead their students through most of Parks Victoria’s parks, however, it is important to contact the local park office before arriving.

7. Teacher Professional Development Days
Teacher professional development days are held in key education centres throughout the year. Keep an eye on the news section for dates.
