Wetland birds
Here is a wetland with water, grass, habitat trees and some of the animals that may live in this environment. Try to find as many animals as you can see- look carefully because some are hard to see.
Wetlands scenery

Imagine living in a swamp! Who would be that crazy? You would be living in ankle to waist deep water and would have to put your head under water to pick up your food from the bottom of the swamp. To help them do this, some wetland birds have special features. You can copy these and have some fun, too.

Stilt birdDid you know that there is a wetland bird called a stilt? It has long legs to keep it above the water and big feet so that it does not sink into the mud.

Can and stringTo make stilts, you will need:
- two large fruit cans
- can opener
- some string

Boy on canNow try walking like this. You can walk through puddles without getting wet (as long as the puddles are not too deep).

Spoonbill bird
Did you know there is a wetland bird called a spoonbill? It has a long beak, shaped like a spoon to scoop up its food. Do you think there is also a knife and fork bird?Tong

A LONG Beak

Wetland birds need long beaks to reach their food through water and mud.

Use a pair of BBQ tongs to try and eat some food. Hold the hinged end of the tongs near your ear then throw food back into your mouth.

Hard, isn't it? Can you eat 5 pieces of apple this way?
